Royal Caribbean quickly expanded to meet the ever increasing demand, and a decision was made to extend the capacity of the Sun Viking from 700 to 1000. They achieved this pioneering feat of engineering by inserting an 85 foot section into the middle of the ship. The success of this expansion led Royal Caribbean to do the same for Nordic Prince. Fourteen years after its creation, the Song of America joins the Royal Caribbean fleet and is the largest of its ships at this stage having a capacity to hold 2000 passengers which is twice the size of the extended Sun Viking.

In addition to its already highly reputable cruise line Royal Caribbean created and built Labadee - a tourist destination in its own right. Although Royal Caribbean has achieved great continuing success in the cruise line industry and has expanded its variety of cruises to include worldwide destinations, it still remains loyal to its origins and offers many different cruise packages to the Caribbean islands.
